Preparing for Your First Agility Trial

Has the agility bug bitten you? Are you interested in competing in agility but don’t know where to start? This course will help you select an agility organization appropriate for you and your dog, as well as familiarize you with the pre-steps that must be done before entering. Preparing ahead of time so you know what to expect will help you feel more confident at your first trial.
Special Notes: The first class session is without your dog. The second class session will be a mock trial.
This class is best suited for: people who are new to the sport of agility and want to learn more about competing in agility.

Bring the Following to Class:
- Notebook
- Flat Buckle Collar (with no tags)
- 4-6 foot leash (no flexi-leashes please)
- Water and water dish
- Small, tasty, treats which are easy for the dog to see when tossed on the floor (such as string cheese, peanut butter Captain Crunch cereal, hot dogs, cheese balls, etc.)
- Toys which your dog enjoys (tug toys, balls, etc.)
- A pouch or deep pockets for easy access to treats
You will learn:
- About several organizations which offer agility
- How to register your dog with the organization(s) of your choice
- How to find agility trials
- Basic rules common to most agility organizations and how to find specific rules
- When you are ready to begin trialing
- What you’ll need to bring to a trial
- What to expect at a trial
- Tips for walking courses
Your dog will learn:
- How to be comfortable to be measured
- A warm-up routine
